Troubleshooting USB Driver Installation for Windows

Windows 7 Support

Total Phase began supporting Windows 7 with the v2.02 release of the Total Phase USB Driver Installer. Using an older version of the driver installer on Windows 7 will cause a message to be displayed stating that the current version of Windows is not supported. Download the latest version of the USB driver installer from our website to properly install the drivers on Windows 7.

The link below points to the Beagle USB 480 Protocol Analyzer product page. The Windows driver installer can be found in the Download section. This installer contains the drivers for all Total Phase products.

Installation Failed

On rare occasions the USB driver installer will fail with an error message of "Installation Failed" or will succeed but the device doesn't properly show up in the Device Manager. To work around either of these issues, follow the steps below to manually install the drivers for the device:

  1. Download the latest version of the driver installer from the website (see above).
  2. Unplug all Total Phase devices from the machine.
  3. Run the installer and select the "Uninstall" option to ensure any older drivers are removed.
  4. Plug in the Total Phase device.
  5. Windows should pop up a "New Hardware Found" dialog. (If this dialog never appears, you can invoke it manually by opening the Device Manager and finding the entry for the Total Phase device. Right-click on the device and select "Update driver...".)
  6. Don't search online and point Windows to this specific directory so it can find the driver files:
    • XP - C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Local Settings\Temp
    • Vista/Win7 - C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Temp
  7. After installation completes, you should see the device show up in the USB section of the Device Manager.
