USB Power Delivery Analyzer Quick Start Guide

Introduction

These getting started guidelines are intended to facilitate the first use of the USB Power Delivery Analyzer. Use the USB Power Delivery Analyzer (PD analyzer) with Data Center, and follow the instructions below to capture standard Power Delivery (PD) devices with USB Type C connectors. All current downloads for the PD analyzer can be found in the product page downloads.

Getting Started Guidelines

  1. Connect PD analyzer to analysis computer and target devices (?).
    1. Connect PD analyzer analysis USB micro B receptacle to the analysis computer.
    2. Connect PD analyzer target USB type C plug to target-1 USB type C receptacle.
    3. Connect PD analyzer target USB type C receptacle to target-2 USB type C plug.
  2. Follow the instructions in Section 3.2 - USB Driver of the PD analyzer user manual to install the USB driver.
  3. Download and unzip the latest version of Data Center that supports the PD analyzer. (?)
  4. Launch Data Center. (?)
  5. Connect Data Center to PD analyzer. (?)
    1. Click Analyzer, and choose Connect to Analyzer.
    2. Select PD analyzer.
    3. Click OK to connect to PD analyzer.
  6. Configure Data Center. (?)
    1. Click Analyzer ➝ Device Settings ➝ USBPD.
    2. Configure Capture Protocol to USBPD. Click OK.
  7. Capture PD data between target-1 and target-2.
    1. Click Analyzer → Run Capture.
    2. Unplug and plug PD analyzer from target-1. You should see red/green light and then blinking blue light on the PD analyzer. On the PD analyzer: CC1 activity is indicated by a green light, CC2 activity is indicated by a red light, and capture mode is indicated by a blinking blue light.
    3. Unplug, rotate upside down, and plug PD analyzer from target-1. You should see again red/green light and then blinking blue light on the PD analyzer.
    4. Click Analyzer → Stop Capture.
  8. Verify that PD analyzer and Data Center monitor the PD data correctly.
  9. Save and export the capture.
    1. Click File → Save (Save the capture as a TDC file). (?)
    2. Click File → Export (Export the capture as a CSV file). (?)
