Total Phase Sponsors Prizes for the Renesas RX Design Contest

SUNNYVALE, CA - October 28, 2010 - Total Phase, a provider of industry-leading USB, I2C, and SPI embedded systems tools, is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the Renesas RX Design Contest. Hosted by Renesas Electronics America, the contest encourages embedded engineers to design applications using the new RX family of 32-bit microcontrollers. As a Renesas Electronics Gold Alliance Partner, Total Phase is sponsoring over $9,000 in prizes to contest participants.

"The participation of our Alliance Partners, such as Total Phase, provides increased value to the Renesas RX Design Contest and enhances the participant experience," said Todd DeBoer, Director of Ecosystems, Consumer & Industrial Business Unit, Renesas Electronics America. "We are looking forward to having Total Phase as a sponsor of this contest."

"Total Phase is excited to be a sponsor of the Renesas RX Design Contest," said Derek Fung, VP Business at Total Phase, Inc. "We believe that our debugging and development tools will be an excellent aid to all the contestants. We wish everyone the best of luck and we look forward to seeing all the creative applications submitted to this contest."

Total Phase Sponsors Multiple Prizes

Contestants will have three opportunities to win Total Phase prizes. First, all participants will have the opportunity to win Total Phase tools during the Weekly Challenge contest hosted by Renesas Electronics America. Second, the overall winners selected by Renesas Electronics America judges will receive a Total Phase tool. Third, Total Phase will judge contestants on the best use of USB and the best use of I2C/SPI in their designs. Total Phase will select their own winners and award prizes accordingly.

For the application deemed to best use USB, the contestant will be awarded a Beagle™ USB 480 Protocol Analyzer. There will also be two honorable mentions, each awarded a Beagle USB™ 12 Protocol Analyzer. For the best use of I2C or SPI in an application, the first place prize will be either an I2C or SPI Development Kit. Two honorable mentions will receive either a Beagle™ I2C/SPI Protocol Analyzer or an Aardvark™ I2C/SPI Host Adapter. The winners will be announced at the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley 2011.

RX62N RDK and the Renesas RX Design Contest

Renesas Electronics America has made 1,000 RX62N Renesas Demonstration Kits (RDK) available to contestants. The RX62N RDK features the new RX62N microcontroller and integrates best-in-class products from several Renesas Electronics partners. The RX62N RDK is a robust solution, helping to reduce design and interoperability uncertainty for designers while delivering desired performance and time-to-market turnaround. The header socket for the Beagle I2C/SPI Protocol Analyzer has been built into the new RX62N RDK, allowing developers to easily connect and analyze their applications using the Data Center Software by Total Phase.

"With the Beagle analyzer header socket designed into the RX62N Renesas Demonstration Kit, Total Phase tools are an excellent resource for contestants in their development efforts," said Kent Lowman, President, Future Designs, Inc. and contest judge. "During judging, we will be looking at the usefulness, technical merit, cost effectiveness, and originality of the entries."

The Renesas RX Design Contest was launched on October 12, 2010 and runs through March 4, 2011. All entries are due on March 4, 2011 and finalist selections will be announced March 13, 2011. The winners will be announced on stage during the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley in 2011.
